Teachers

Sheila Simone (Director)

Sheila is a certified member of Dance Masters of America where she served on the board of directors as director, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice president and two years as President. Sheila has traveled to San Antonio Texas for the National Convention as delegate representing the CT chapter of DMA and as a member of The Dance Teacher’s Club of CT. Sheila is a former member of The SanMar Acrobatic Dance Company where she performed as an ensemble member and soloist throughout CT and NY. She is a three time Dance Masters of America scholarship recipient and has trained with some of the most notable master teachers and choreographers in the country such as Jason Samuels Smith, Mia Michaels, Savion Glover, and Slam. Ms. Simone has trained at the prestigious Edge Performing Arts School in CA, Broadway Dance Center NY, the training programs of the Hartford Ballet CT, American Academy of Ballet NY and Steps NY. She has trained in pedagogy for children’s curriculum in the forms of Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, Ballet Pointe, Acro and Hip-Hop at the DMA Teachers Training School at Buffalo State University. Sheila has won many high awards as a competitive dancer as both a gymnastics and dance team member. Sheila has led the Dance City Team to win the Platinum National Championship title as well as many pageant and solo title holders. She has had America’s Best Dance Crew Striker’s All Star Team teach at Dance City & The Arts. Sheila Provides Young students the opportunity to take classes with the choreographers from Victorious, and Glee, and teen students with the choreographers from “So You Thin k You Can Dance,”as well as cast members from Wicked and Mary Poppin`s.

Kaitlyn Krewson

Kaitlyn has been training in several styles of dance for more than 18 years, including ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary,jazz, tap, and hip hop. She has trained with several well-known professional choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Brian Freidman, Wade Robson, Sonya Tayeh, Chris Judd, and Dave Scott. She has taken, and continues to take master classes with professionals including Jeff Amstead, Dorrell Martin, formally the director of the Joffery Ballet Company, and many others. Kaitlyn is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University and is currently earning her master’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Bridgeport, while continuing to train for and pursue her dance career. She has received numerous awards including the Platinum award, the Winning Choreographer Award, and the prestigious Top Teacher Award. She is a former dancer of both Dance City & The Arts senior team and the Dance City Company. She was also a trained teaching assistant for several years with Dance City & The Arts.

Elisa Alexander

Elisa Alexander was born in West Virginia and started dancing at the age of three. She trained at Inwood Performing Arts and the Frederick School of Classical Ballet before leaving home to attend high school at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy for three years on scholarship. She spent two summers at North Carolina Dance Theatre and one at Boston Ballet's summer program. Elisa earned her BFA cum laude. in ballet at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. While there, she enjoyed dancing orles in Paquita, La Bayadere, Swan Lake and Balanchine's Walpurgisnacht and Pas de Dix, as well as original works created by CCM faculty. She also choreographed two pieces that were chosen to be performed in the Choreohrapher's Showcase at CCM. Additionally, Elisa performed as a guest artist in Dayton Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker. After college Eliza joined the Charlottesville Ballet in Cherlottesville, VA. She was a company member as well as choreographer for two years. In 2012 Elisa also performed and choreographed for concor Dance Contemporary, a brand new contemporary company in Crozet, Virginia.

Julie Rizzo

Julie Rizzo is a graduate of Gloria Jean Studio of Dance, Danstarz Dance Team, and was member of the United States Tap Dance Team. She competed in Germany where the U.S. Team won the silver medal in the World Championship. Her expertise in tap has won her many high score awards in national dance competitions. She has won pageant titles such as America's Teen Yankee Miss and Teen Miss New Haven County. Julie recently graduated from Saint Joseph College where she was the president and choreographer of the Saint Joseph College Dance Ensemble. Julie represented the college at the Ted Hershey Dance Marathon and choreographed a piece for the 5x5 Dance Festival where she had the opportunity to work with Lorelei Chang. She is very excited to continue her work as a dancer and choreographer through Dance City and The Arts.

Heather Boudreau

Heather, a graduate of Dance City & the Arts has studied dance for over 17 years including styles of ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, lyrical, tap and modern. Heather was accepted to attend the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts for her high school years to focus her studies on ballet, modern, and jazz. She was also a trained teacher’s assistant for seven years. Heather has learned and performed with Pilobolus, Paul Dennis (Limon Company), David Dorfman Company, Leslie Frey (Full Force Company) and Jane Comfort and Company. She has taken master classes with Sean Curran, Bill Hastings, and Robert Battle. Heather was selected to perform in and help choreograph a student performance of “Save Our World” at Wesleyan University. She was selected to perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in “The Ultimate Michael Experience”, a show in memory of the late Michael Jackson. Heather has attended master classes at The International Pulse On Tour, featuring Desmond Richardson, Laurie Ann Gibson, Tyce Dorio, Wade Robson, Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Dave Scott, Gil Duldulao, and Sonya Tayeh. Heather was selected by The International Pulse On Tour to be a crewmember where she was awarded outstanding crewmember scholarship and a leadership scholarship. Competitively, Heather has won Top First and First Overall awards. Heather has been the Dance Team coach for three years and has been awarded Platinum, High Platinum, Choreography awards and Top Teacher Awards. Currently, Heather is finishing up her Business Marketing Degree at Central Connecticut State University and is working as an office manager at Dance City & the Arts.Awards.

Carey Simone

Carey has been training in dance for over eighteen years, trained as a teacher’s assistant for 8 years, and has been teaching dance for three years. Although she is attending Central Connecticut State University for Art Education, she has always been passionate about teaching dance. As education is very important to her, she continues to train with master teachers from So You Think You Can Dance, including Brian Friedman, Sonya Tayeh, Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, and many more. She also recently attended a teacher training program taught by choreographers from popular Disney shows and ballet companies, and plans to attend this program each year for fresh teaching ideas. Carey was a national champion winner for Step Up To Dance with a group contemporary number, and she now enjoys teaching students to grow and strive at Dance City & The Arts. As a graduate of Dance City & The Arts, she is thrilled to continue teaching the various styles of dance offered, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Musical Theater and more!

Lorelei Chang - Guest Master Teacher

Lorelei Chang is the Artistic Director of dancEnlight , a professional modern dance company currently in residence at Connecticut Concert Ballet in Manchester, CT. Ms. Chang has performed nationally and internationally including for the Grand Imperial Charity Banquet in Tokyo, Japan hosted by the former Indonesian's President's wife Dewi, Sukarno. Her performance with her twin sister, Mai Nakanishi who is the co-director of the company, received overwhelming feedback. She was commissioned to choreograph and guest teaching for many schools and festivals locally and globally including GuangDong Modern Dance Company; many Art Institutes in Beijing, China; Trinity College; Full Force Dance Theater; Greater Harford Academy; Connecticut Concert Ballet; Rebound Dance Festival; 5x5 Dance Festival, Montessori Schools in both AZ & CT., Miss Porter's school and more. Her choreography was presented at the Beijing International Dance Festival in China (1990), American Dance Festival (1991), International Dance Festival in Hong Kong and Dance Festival in India(1992),Trinity College, The Hartt School, Marlborough Arts Center,Charter Oak Cultural Center, International Arts & Ideas, 5x5 Dance Festival, Rebound Dance Festival, Connecticut Commission on Cultural & Tourism, International Calligraphy Conference at Stonehill College, Yokohama Museum of Art, Tokyo; Italian Embassy in Tokyo, and Grand Imperial Charity Banquet in Tokyo, Japan. Lorelei is currently an adjunct faculty member of Theater & Dance at Trinity College, Connecticut Concert Ballet, Pilates and Yoga teacher at South Windsor Senior Center.

Lisa Carroll - Musical Theater Academy Teacher

Lisa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in theater and education from Boston College. She has been actively working in local educational theater since 1988 as the coordinator/director of the Southington Youth Summer Theater program. She is also the drama club advisor at Northeast Middle School in Bristol, the drama teacher and advisor at Bristol Eastern High Schoool, the drama club director at St. Dominic's School in Southington and the musical theater teacher at Dance City & the Arts. Lisa has performed with the Southington Community Theater, as the lead vocalist of the "Screamin Eagles Jazz Band" and as the cantor and music ministry director at St. Dominic's Chuch in Southington. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City and in Dublin, Ireland. Las has taught in the Bristol school system for 17 years.

Marissa Maffiolini

Marissa Maffiolini is a recent graduate of Dean College where she graduated magna cum laude with her BA in dance. She has danced in numerous productions at Dean including being a part of Dean's prestigious Modern and Jazz Companies. She performed Gregory King's "The Strange Invisible Perfume" at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 2012. Marissa also has a musical theatre background and her favorite credits include "Chicago" (Mona, Dance Captain), and "The Producers" (dancer/ensemble). Post graduation, Marissa has enjoyed dancing working in New Haven with Laura Manzella in East Rock Dance Theater. She has also performed a co-choreographed duet with Devon Boucher in the Boston, MA performance "Circles: Fourth Quarter." Marissa currently resides in New York City and is a company member of Push Factor Dance. She enjoys coming in to teach and choreograph at Dance City and the Arts when visiting her hometown of Southington. Marissa is a platinum award winning competition winner as well as one of the choreographers for the Dance City and the Arts Team.

Jeremy Perlini - Acro/Gymnastics

Jeremy is currently a personal trainer for Cardio Express in Wethersfield. His roots are in tumbling, however, having been a gymnast for eight years. He carried his passion fot stunting and tumbling into college where he competed for the UNiversity of Delaware cheerleading team which was then ranking number two in the nation. He was the head coach of Avon Grove's High School cheerleading team for two years and was a private tumbling coach for seven years.
